The riding boot has outlasted every trend that tried to replace it.

It has been in more or less continuous use for about two centuries now, which is a considerably longer run than any fashion house can claim for anything. Colleen keeps that original shape and adds lacing down the full front, so the fit through the leg can be adjusted properly rather than simply endured.

Low block heel. High enough to lift the foot clear of the pavement and low enough to walk a city in all afternoon. There is no breaking-in period to survive first.

Lacing down the front. It lets you set the width through the calf and the ankle independently of each other, which almost nothing else does. Nothing gapes open and nothing grips too tightly.

Knee-high shaft. It sits just under the knee, which keeps a trouser tucked in neatly and a midi hem clearing the top cleanly. The line of the leg stays long.

Rounded toe. There is genuine room across the front of the foot instead of a taper that squeezes the toes together. A thick sock fits without crowding anything.

Some things get bought again every few years and some get bought once and simply kept. A good riding boot has always belonged firmly in the second group.
