Zita | Velvet Holiday Party Dress

Velvet is the only fabric that looks expensive in bad lighting.

It absorbs light instead of bouncing it back, so in a dim room it reads as depth and texture rather than as shine. Zita uses it on a fitted black dress with nothing else going on anywhere, which is precisely the point of it.

Short pile velvet. It has a soft nap that shifts in tone as you move through a room, which is the thing that makes velvet look alive. No sequin ever manages to do that.

Fitted through the body. Cut close to the shape with just enough give in it to sit down comfortably for a whole dinner. It follows the body rather than squeezing it.
